"If everybody is thinking alike, then somebody isn't thinking."       -George S. Patton

...and the busy season continues!

Coming up on May 10th we will have many of our students and their guests attending the prom. Once again, Toni and Scott have helped to "create a memory" for our students that they can remember for years to come. Thank-you to all faculty members who have volunteered to chaperon this event.

Math MCAS will take place on May 13th and 14th. As a reminder, seniors will be arriving late on those days and shop breaks in the cafeteria will be cancelled. Thank-you all for your cooperation with this very important testing session.

On May 15th, the Arrive Alive Drunk Driving and Texting Simulator will be here. Stay tuned for further details about how your students may participate in this worthwhile activity.

Professional Development

A reminder for anyone who is proposing a professional development project for PDP's. The proposal form is available in the high school office. In order to receive PDP's for a project, your proposal must be written and accepted. Thanks!

May 10th

At 12:00 noon, all vocational teachers will meet in the Lecture Hall with Deb. Also at noon, all academic teachers will meet in the Library for proctor training.

Department meetings will follow the vocational and academic meetings. Department meetings should include "finalizing" final exams, gathering NEASC evidence and updating course syllabi for NEASC submission.

In the Library, following proctor training, there will be a meeting for anyone interested in helping to develop an activity calendar for the 2013-2014 school year. Any teacher who is interested in having an activity or activities added to the calendar should plan to join the guidance counselors and administrators for any/all of the meeting.

There will be a faculty meeting for all teachers in the Lecture Hall at 1:45 p.m.

Enjoy your week-end!
Margaret

Activities, Events, Reminders and Thank-yous

"Individual commitment to a group effort - that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work."     -Vince Lombardi

We have entered the busy season at South Shore, where at times our event planning and scheduling responsibilities rival the time spent teaching and learning. As we enter this very busy time, I would like to take  this opportunity to invite you to participate in these events and to say thank-you to those who have committed their time to make each of these activities a success.

We have more than 30 students competing at the Skills USA state competition today. I have all the confidence in the world in their ability, but regardless of the outcome, we are proud to have so many competitors. I know and you know that it is the work of many faculty members that allowed us to have representation at this event. In addition to the teachers who volunteered to chaperon this week-end, it took the skills and the time of many shop teachers, related teachers, academic teachers and guidance counselors to make this happen. Their success this week-end is a direct reflection on you. Thank-you!

Thank-you to everyone who has helped to make the Second Annual Talent Show a reality. In addition to our student performers, there have been countless "adult" hours, behind the scenes, helping to make this event a success. Thanks also to those faculty members who are planning to attend the performance this evening. If the show is anything like the rehearsals, you will be treated to some great performances.

Reservations are now being accepted for the Drama Club's production of the Taming of the Shrew. The performance dates are May 2nd - May 4th. Reservations for the dinner and the performance can be made by contacting Marie. Thanks for supporting your colleagues and your students by buying tickets and attending this event.

This evening we will be celebrating 50 years of vocational education at South Shore. In addition, we will be recognizing our first ten Hall of Fame recipients. Thank-you to everyone who supported this event by nominating candidates for the Hall of Fame, by selling tickets, buying tickets, printing items, donating raffle items, advertising the information and serving on the committee. Thanks to all of your hard work the event is a sell out.  Our goals were to establish an engaged alumni group that is willing to support our school in the community, establish an active alumni database that may be available to offer co-op positions to our students, and to celebrate vocational education on the South Shore. Thanks to all of you who supported this project, we appear to be achieving our goals.

Enjoy your week-end,
Margaret

April Showers

April showers bring...

As we enter this April vacation week I would like to leave you with a thought...

“Education is the ability to listen to almost anything without losing your temper or your self-confidence.”    -Robert Frost
