The Challenge
Last week, I told you about an article that I had read about building principals. The article challenged all building principals to be sure that they are explicit about what they value. As I read on, I kept asking myself a version of the same question that I often ask teachers... How do you know that your students know? How do I know that my faculty knows?
I'll ask them! So I did... I asked you what does Margaret Dutch value? What are my expectations for all faculty members at South Shore?
(hint: 4 words)
Thank-you to all faculty members who accepted the challenge! The majority of you responded with the correct answer...and those of you that did not, gave very thoughtful and insightful answers. One of you even managed to repeat one of my favorites, even though it had 7 words!

SMART Goal Reminder
Please leave your completed template in the Main Office. Marylou has a box for them or you may leave it in my mail. The goal is to have all completed templates handed in by the close of school on January 22nd. Need assistance? Can't find your goals? Don't like the ones that you wrote? Let me know and we will schedule some assistance!
Parent/Teacher Conferences Reminder
On Wednesday, February 6th, we will host Teacher-Parent Conferences (5:30-8:00) with academic instructors. As many of you may recall from last year, these conferences are teacher-initiated, based on students who are not doing well with you.

Save the Date
South Shore has been
selected to represent schools across the nation by participating in the
National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), also known as The Nation's Report Card. NAEP, administered by the U.S. Department of
Education, allows educators, parents, and legislators to compare the student
achievement of Massachusetts with other states and the nation.
The NAEP will be given at South Shore on January 31st. A sample of our students, selected randomly by NAEP, will be taking a reading or mathematics
assessment. This test should take approximately 90 minutes for students to
complete.
We were just notified
that our random list includes approximately 180 students. As you can imagine,
the logistics of this test will impact everyone in the building. I have a
meeting with a NAEP representative
on Friday. Following that meeting, I will have a better idea of the impact that
this testing will have on our day. I will keep you informed of the schedule,
the students being tested and the impact to the schedule.
For now, please save
the date of January 31st and assume that it will not be business as
usual.
